Bob-omb Amigurumi Pattern

Bob-omb Amigurumi - crochet pattern by loopycathrine

It’s finally Bob-omb time! I will probably say this about most amigurumis I make, but I think this is my favourite one so far. It’s so tiny and cute. I attached the legs in a seated position just so it can sit on the shelf and look cute!

The pattern consists of two YouTube videos:

Part 1: Head & Body (Sun, 9 Nov at 17:00GMT)

Part 2: The Blue Top & Wick, Feet and the Golden Key (Sun, 16 Nov at 17:00GMT)

For the videos I decided to make a red one, just so that I don’t up with two of the same. That also makes for a bigger pile of Super Mario characters at the end of this series of amigurumis.

I wanted to use safety eyes, but I didn’t have any white ones. I sanded the ones I had down a tiny bit before I painted them with white nail varnish. I think it took two or three coats before they were fully white. I’d highly recommend doing this maybe a day before starting the pattern as it will take some time for it to dry properly. Alternatively you could use some white felt and glue that on. I just personally think in this case safety eyes will look better. Plus they will be more secure than gluing felt on.

But enough of me waffling on. Let’s get into the details.

YARN & HOOK

  • 2mm hook

  • Stylecraft Special DK in Midnight, Sherbet, Sunshine, Gold and White. Replace the midnight with Matador if you want to make a red Bob-omb.

  • 10mm black safety eyes – I have painted mine white with nail varnish. Alternatively you can use white felt + glue

  • Toy filling

  • Pins to place pieces before sewing together

  • Needle

  • Stitch markers (I prefer using scrap yarn as “stitch markers”)

SIZE

Bob-omb is approximately 6cm tall when seated, the round body is approximately 5cm in width.

Weight: 15g (this includes all materials used to make Bob-omb)

ASSEMBLY

Assemble in the same order the pattern is written. I would recommend using a photo of Bob-omb as reference for best possible outcome. Pin all the pieces in place before sewing to make sure it looks right.

THE PATTERN

PART ONE | HEAD & BODY

I have used Stylecraft Special DK in Midnight for the head & body, and Matador for the red version.

For this part you will also need some safety eyes. Please scroll back to the intro of this post (if you skipped this) to read about how I painted mine white.

PART TWO | THE BLUE TOP & WICK, FEET & GOLDEN THE KEY

Part 2 coming Sun, 16 Nov at 17:00GMT
